ICDL is the world's leading end-user computer skills certification programme. Employers are increasingly relying on the ICDL to validate training courses and to recruit computer-literate staff. The ICDL process is based upon a standard worldwide Syllabus, which is developed and maintained by the ECDL Foundation. Everything a student needs to know to become fully computer literate and pass the ICDL tests, is contained in the accredited courses with clear, simple guidance on all of the ICDL modules. In the United States, ICDL is used by schools and academic institutions, corporations, Workforce Investment Boards, and government economic development programs to help prepare individuals for success in a world where proficient use of information and communication technology is critically important.
The ICDL is not a "training course" but rather a competency standard that is acknowledged through testing. The International Computer Driving Licence is an online computer test which shows that you can use different computer programs. All ICDL testing is automated, carried out on a PC and provides the candidate with immediate results. As the test for each module is passed, the Accredited Test Centre will sign off that particular module in the logbook. ICDL Training Employers, educational institutions and Government agencies in over 140 countries have hailed the ICDL as the international standard for computer literacy. All the accredited test centres provide training for the ICDL as well as conducting the tests.
