Formal ICT Qualifications with ICDL
By Peter Whelan

The ECDL Foundation is the global governing body for ECDL and ICDL member countries.  The role of the Foundation is to promote and co-ordinate the development of the ICDL concept.  Approved and accredited by the ICDL Foundation.  It provides everything a student needs to gain full understanding and practical knowledge of the subjects covered by the syllabus, and then to pass the ICDL tests.

The International Computer Driving Licence (formally ECDL) is an internationally recognised qualification for computer users everywhere.  Throughout Europe, this qualification is known as the European Computer Driving License (ECDL), while in countries outside of Europe who have adopted the standard, it is known as the International Computer Driving License (ICDL).  Preparing for European/International Computer Driving Licence (ECDL/ICDL) certification of your end user computer skills could not be easier with numerous accredited centres throughout the World.  The European Computer Driving Licence Foundation Limited manages the Syllabus and co-ordinates regular updates to ensure it continues to be relevant to both the working world and the advances in technologies and practices.  Of the large variety of computer courses offered, many are not accredited, or rely on separate alliances with industry and educational bodies for recognition and that's where the ICDL comes into it's own.  After studying and practice you perform the certification test at a national test centre.  Electric Paper, based in Ireland, provides training, assessment and testing material to the educational sector designed specifically for the global ICDL certification program.  The basic skills learnt in all the modules are easily transferred Web Browser or electronic mail client programs and other presentation tools.

The ICDL Syllabus has been reviewed and endorsed as a computer literacy standard by numerous international educational institutions and computing societies.  As the global standard for end-user computer skills, the ICDL is widely recognized for the variety of benefits, it brings to the individual, employers and society.  Put yourself in the driving seat let the step-by-step ICDL program of fundamental computer skills bring you up to cyberspeed in today's digital world.
